ALP Shadow Immigration Minister Tony Burke speaks to Nimbin

Shadow minister Tony Burke [ALP] came to the Nimbin Hotel to 'campaign', and support Justine Elliot, local member of Tweed Shire. BTW, she hardly spoke herself. Since I didn't get an exclusive interview for community radio - I just recorded his 'pitch'. Maybe he just doesn't care anyway - you'll be the judge.

Police Crackdown on Pot Festival - Nimbin Mardi-Grass

14.4 Mb. 30 Mins.

For 13 years, police have tolerated Nimin's Annual Mardi-grass Pot Festival, where revelers behave as if the herb is not prohibited.

Enough! thundered the area's new top cop, threatening that this year's gathering would be policed by a force oc 200 to enforce even minor breaches of the drug laws.

Was he kidding? How would the hippies react? Could there be a riot at the 2006 Nimbin Mardi-Grass.

Produced, recorded and narrated by Don Sharpe

Police Presence and the Hippy threat - the thin rainbow line

25 Minutes 17Mb.

A review of the police presence in Nimbin before, and during (certainly not after) the Nimbin Mardi-Grass. Regional commander 'Bluey' Lyons gets a gong, and tells the locals what he did to made them happy. According to his interview with regional ABC radio, the locals were begging him for more police, but not everyone agrees. Hear the actuality, police disinformation, and what really happened, and then sit back and enjoy the original Daddy Cool play cops'n hippies with the Bumble Boogie.
