3.7Mb. 6mins. 17secs. mono Venezuelan Viewpoint. GreenLeft Weekly stringers Jim and Coral report each week from the capital of Venezuela Caracas, with progress reports on the development of the Venezuelan Bolivarian Revolution, under the tutelage of the government of President Hugo Chavez. In this week's report, Jim gives us the real story on the tumultuous National Trade Union meeting, where apparently, chairs were thrown, and the presence (and tolerance) of anti-government trade unions is still a factor in decision making processes, that are now, increasingly, in the hands of the people (workers) who are the most critical to maintaining the processes of production. We hear the latest policy decisions by the Venezuelan government on OPEC. The Chavez government is using Venezuela's access to huge oil reserves, to favour Third World countries in an attempt to break the hegemony of the developed Northern hemisphere over the less developed South, and guide them into more sustainable economic models. Jim translates and summarises a statement by Venezuelan President Chavez about the nature of US capitalism and a wonderful explication of how the fate of earth's future may well depend on the future of the Bolivarian revolution - sustainable economic models are essential to global and environmental survival. The remaining oil reserves on the planet should be committed to this principle. A quick run down on how the 'old school' of Venezuela's plutocratic elites is provocatively, trying to generate student unrest in the Universities, in an attempt to (yet again) destabilise the Chavez government before the upcoming OPEC conference and Presidential elections. 11Mb. 42 mins. Hemp Show Pt. 1. The Big Joint goes to Canberra! Michael, Gerard, and Sam get back from their week in Canberra, in the nick of time to give a hot hot hot report for this week's show. The Hemp Ambassadors and Diplomats were warmed by their reception at Parliament House, where they were feted by the cream of the Australian political system. (Some muttered asides about the contrast with north coast NSW attitudes ... ) The Goddess knocks 'em out on the lawns of Parliament House, where the Big Joint is reassembled for a benign and friendly, interested crowd. Friendly campfire conversations with the Canberra cops, who seem to be quite human, compared to their north coast brethren. |
